Or…the Curious Road Home via Jeffrey Epstein
Today’s misery is repeated exposure to the administrators of the federal government. But maybe it is also our salvation.
If you have the habit of paying attention to the news, you’re screwed. It does not matter whether you read progressive journals or watch reactionary podcasts. There he is, orange and ugly, a cautionary tale of self-delusion and megalomania.
Not that long ago, President Trump proclaimed that he ran the world. No doubt, he is in charge of something. It may not be himself. But he is not the boss of the whole world. Let me explain.
You’d think that his multitude of sins over the last ten years would have been sufficient cause for at least sixty percent (ninety-nine percent?) of American voters to elect someone else last year. Anyone else. However, his people remained loyal.
Meanwhile, the rest of us feel like in the dead of night we were secretly anesthetized and deported to an enormous insane asylum. Outwardly, it looks like home. Turn on the news, and it looks like Hell. Abandon all hope.
Then, several days ago, Pam Bondi published a memo about Jeffrey Epstein, a man who claimed to have been Donald Trump’s best friend for ten years. Ten! Count ‘em.
Jeffrey’s claim rings true. There are plenty of pictures and videos of Jeffrey and Donald partying together in New York and at Mar-a-Lago. Jeffrey even told one journalist that the current First Lady and Donald slept together for the first time on Jeffrey’s jet while crossing some major body of water. Or was it a land mass? It doesn’t matter.
Pam is the Attorney General of the United States of America. That means she supervises all of the attorneys who work for the US Justice Department. Those are the guys and gals who prosecute people who commit crimes prohibited under federal law.
In 2008, long before Pam got her current job, Jeffrey was prosecuted and convicted in federal court on five counts of selling the sexual favors of teenage girls to dirty old men. The identity of a few of these men has come to light. Prince Andrew of Great Britain was one of them to give you an idea of the elite status of Jeffrey’s clientele.
This conduct is called sex trafficking. It’s a federal crime, and Jeffrey got busted again for the same thing during the first Trump administration. But, while Jeffry was awaiting trial, he died — right in his own solitary jail cell. His death was officially determined to be a suicide. You’d think that would have been the end of it.
Except that it was very convenient for Jeffrey to die like that. A reasonable person might harbor suspicions that Jeffrey was murdered to keep him from talking about all the famous people who purchased sex with adolescent girls on Jeffrey’s jet, boat, or estate.
People like to gossip.
Consequently, despite the official story of suicide (another rational possibility), right-wing influencers like Charlie Kirk, Alex Jones, Fox News…it’s a long list…started talking a lot about Jeffrey’s “client list” when Joe Biden became President. These influencers speculated, I dare say, they accused Joe Biden and his Attorney General, Merrick Garland, of covering up the Department of Justice’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and the suspicious circumstances of Jeffrey’s untimely demise.
At one time or another, one or the other of these influencers has speculated about all the Democrats that the public would find on Jeffrey’s list if the DOJ made the list public. They had become convinced that Bill Clinton, Tom Hanks, Nancy Pelosi, and a host of other liberal elites had had a grand old time knocking down shots of baby blood at Jeffrey’s shindigs. When Donald got re-elected in 2024, the influencers and the influenced, which is mostly MAGA, had their hopes rekindled. They wanted to see the proof. Their president would surely show it to them once and for all.
But, after all that buildup, Pam’s recent memo was worse than a dud. It said there was no client list. Indeed, it said there was no credible evidence that anybody was Jeffrey’s client. Just nothing to see. Forget about it.
Moreover, the President then said that anyone who now says otherwise, anyone clamoring for the release of Jeffrey’s file, is a traitor. Well, words to that effect. Donald claims the whole thing was Joe Biden’s fault. Anyone who says otherwise is no longer genuine MAGA. They are excommunicated.
Until now, MAGA had taken bait like that and swallowed it voraciously. If Donald said it, it must be true, even if he said the exact opposite the week before.
Not this time.
None other than Alex Jones declined to accept his banishment. He has gone so far as to say that he, Jones, was never a cult member and thus cannot be excommunicated from MAGA. He even hinted that MAGA might become a cult…if it believed Donald now about the Jeffrey Epstein case.
He has pleaded with Donald to do the right thing — release the Epstein file. He cannot figure out why Donald won’t do it. Donald promised to do it. Didn’t he promise?
Other MAGA adherents have also bemoaned this state of affairs.
“The President has lied to me!” they groan.
Now I ask you: Is the genius you re-elected lying now, or was he lying before?
It has to be one or the other. And, if he is lying about Jeffrey, might he have lied about other matters?
If you knew yourselves better, you would have figured that out a long time ago.
It is a long road back, but the sooner you turn around, the sooner you’ll get home.
