I don’t remember how many cease fires have been declared by the Trump administration since the war with Iran started…when was that? Oh yeah, February 28, 2026. But I can tell you, in a little over four months, there have been quite a few. Haven’t there been quite a few cease fires? Seems like it.
The last one, however, was a doozy. They called it a Memorandum of Understanding. I was pretty amazed because I had come to the conclusion that no one really understood anything about this war. Not why the US and Israel started it. Not why a country as powerful as the United States could not win it. Not why the price of crude oil keeps bouncing up and down like a kangaroo on a gigantic barbecue grill, giving world leaders conniption fits and world consumers ulcers.
Don’t it seem like the war was a mistake?
Pepto-Bismol notwithstanding, ending the war appeared to be the only solution. A Memorandum of Understanding might just do the trick. A really good kind of cease fire.
Now it is unfortunately true that most people are worse off for the war having gotten started in the first place. For example, gas prices are higher. A lot higher. And higher gas prices mean everything else is bound to cost more too. The stuff you buy every day has to get to you, and that means somebody has to buy the gasoline or diesel and put it in their van or truck to deliver the stuff. Without gas, motors won’t go.
So, the US Vice-President and some his stooges, oops, I mean diplomats met with some Iranians and Pakistanis somewhere over in that neck of the woods, and they agreed upon the Memorandum of Understanding or, as those in the know call it, an MOU. The MOU was then flown to the Palace of Versailles in France to be signed. When leaders sign a document in Versailles, it means no one will ever breach the terms of the document. That’s a historical fact. So that’s gotta be the reason they signed it there.
But whaddaya know? No sooner than the ink had dried, bombs started going off again. Mostly in the Strait of Hormuz. But they went off other places too, especially on US military bases located in allied countries in the Middle East. I believe they called this development a lull in the cease fire.
Now this morning I read in the news that this lull has gotten entirely out of hand. Donald Trump was in Turkey (another historic kind of place) at a meeting with world leaders. Donald told the world leaders, “It’s over!” And he threw in that the “Iranians are scum.”
I had to ask myself if that means the President thinks the Iranians are Democrats?
Golly, you know, I had hoped the MOU would work and save people from a lot of heartburn and depleted bank accounts. But I must admit, I was consternated from the beginning.
You see, once a war gets started, only God knows how it’ll end. It is impossible for humans to predict the outcome. What is possible for us to predict with an extremely high degree of confidence is that more people will suffer and die than if the war had never started.
So, if you don’t learn anything else from this war, learn this: when Donald Trump makes you a promise, he feels no obligation to keep it and will very likely do the opposite, especially if it is something a scumbag would do.
This war ain’t over. I guess it it ain’t gonna be over for a long time.
